Applejack | Position
weight on L heel and R ball and shift unweighted part of the feet
to L. Move feet back to start position and reverse weight positions. With weight on L ball and R heel, shift to R. Feet back to start position. |
Ball
Change 換腳步 |
Transfer of weight from ball of one foot to the ball or flat of the other; usually counted '&1' |
Brush | A smooth swing
of the lower leg from the knee to the front oor back. As the leg swings, the foot lightly brushes the floor on the ball of the foot. |
Camel Walk |
Move
the knee of your weighted leg forward by raising your heel off the
floor and then returning it to the floor (A KNEE POP).
Then follow
this by stepping forward with your free leg whilst keeping your
knee straight. |
Camel Walk (alt variation) | Step forward at 45º on the RF thrusting R hip forward, drag LF together with hand clap, straightening body. |
Charleston | A 4 count step
pattern with or without swivelling the weighted foot in and out,
e.g.

Chase | A figure where one partner pursues the other |
Chug |
With
feet remaining in contact with the floor lift heels slightly &
shift both feet fw w/ shunting action either with feet together or
apart.

Draw |
To
bring the unweighted foot slowly across the floor to the
supporting foot usually over two or three beats.
AKA DRAG |
Duck Walk | Swivelling both feet on aalternate heel-toe combinations to move the body sideways. |
Extension / Extend | Extending one or more parts of the body. To extend in length, and/or width and height as indicated. |
Fan (Heel or Toe) | A swivelling movement of the foot through 45º w/ either the ball or heel of the foot weighted. |
Flex | To bend slightly a part of the body. |
Flick | A low kick taken from the knee. |
Grapevine | A travelling
step pattern with the first step forward or back diagonally to the
side where the unweighted foot crosses behind or in front of the
weighted foot.
Usually side, cross behind, side. AKA VINE. |
Heel stomp | Lift heel offthe floor by bending the knee and then snap heel to floor |
Hitch | Upward movement of the knee with the lower leg slightly fw |
Hitch Turn | Hitch and turn together, using the hitch momentum to carry through turn |
Hook | Cross unweighted foot in front or behind weighted foot at shin height with toe pointed towards the floor. |
Hop | Jump into air from one foot landing on same foot |
Jazz Box |

Jazz Jump | Spring into the air leading on one foot and landing on both feet. |
Jump | Take off from both feet elevating the body, landing on both feet simultaneously, flexing knees and ankles before and after elevation. |
Jumping Jacks | Jump into air
landing with feet apart. Jump into the air landing with feet
together. Jumping Jack Turn: As for Jumping Jack, instead of landing 'feet together', land feet crossed. Twisted ½ turn. When RF crosses in front the turn is to the L and vice versa. |
Kick | The leg is lifted from the hip and extended in the designated direction. |
Kick
/ Flick Ball Change |
Commence w/ weight on LF. Kick/flick RF fw. Place RF back, small step w/ part weight on ball of foot. Replace weight on to LF. Can be danced on opposite foot. |
Knee Pop(s) | Lift heel(s) from floor by bending knee(s) and return heels to floor. May be executed by bending knee across in front of weighted leg in single knee pop(s). |
Leap | Transferring the weight from one foot to the other involving elevation and progression. |
Lock | The unweighted foot is tightly crossed in front or behind the weighted foot |
Monterey Turn | A four count
standing step pattern which is executed starting with either foot.
Starting position is feet together and weight evenly distributed
on both feet, e.g.

Open Turn | A combination of three steps making a full turn to the R or L, travelling in the direction of the turn, i.e. R turn-RF, LF, RF. Count 123 or 1&2 |

Rock
Step 搖步 |
A step pattern
where a rocking motion is executed by transferring body weight
from one foot to the other. Can be executed fw, bk, side, across
in front or behind.

in the opposite direction to the step i.e. L Sailor Step

Swivel | A standing
pattern executed w/ feet together and weight evenly distributed on
the balls of both feet. W/ the heels raised, keep together and
rotate the hips (and thus the heels) in the direction indicated
and then return home.
AKA HEEL SWIVELS Can be reversed w/ weight on heels and move toes AKA TOE SWIVELS |
Swivet | Position weight on L ball and R heel and shift toes of RF to R and L heel to L. Return feet home and reverse weight application to shift toes of LF to L and R heel to R. |
