Dance with Me

Some compare this with Havana Nights as both are love stories between Standardized Latin (ballroom) dancers and authentic Latin (Afro-Cuban) dancers, but of course they are definitely different. Unlike Havana Nights, Rafael and Ruby here had a groovy ending, better yet, it left us to think it would be a happily-ever-after one.
I like both, and although I believe the lovers with different backgrounds would have had lots of things to resolve, I would really like to think that they were genuinely happy. Life is already  hard, so why not mesmerize yourself with a love story and some fine dancing?

I like how the plot went on and had Ruby partnered with her former partner, who was also her ex-boyfriend.  I didn't mean to like this ex but it made more sense to a professional dancer to choose a better dancer to entre competitions at an international level. This seemed to me more reasonable than some of the other dance movies- I doubted why people like SU1 in which the novice and genius earned every bit of honour. Okay, few watches musical for the plot, BUT a good plot would make it more watchable, that is for sure!

For the dance, expected the final competition was the grandest. Rafael's and Patricia's dance was really nice. Chayanne acted very well by not dancing too good: since Rafael should be new to dancing, he shouldn't be dancing too great. The choreography was particularly impressive and I liked it so much. Some of the lifts were easy and I think if I could have a man of my own I would love to train him to do the whole routine.

Julian's and Ruby's dance, to my disappointment, was not better than Rafael's and Patricia's. I could understand how she felt seeing Rafael in the crowd, and that gave tension between the couple during the dance, I just think this is so unprofessional (even this is just a movie). I believe a true dancer should not / would not be affected by this tiny thing, especially she was supposed to be a world class dancer. And, she exaggerated too much in her dance, the jive and samba were all fine, but the final rumba-- I agree that a good rumba should be emotional, but she made it too much and ruined the dance.

The dance in the after-party was much more Latino, less of a ballroom style. And the last dance scene was the whole crew in the dance school plus the dance students dancing together. I felt like to go dancing with them especially when I saw the little Peter was there too! I always think that dancing should be a thing for every age. I think I liked the ending partly because the little kid could join the happy life too.

p.s. I like the You are My Home too.
