There are some other youtube clip titled 'The Last Days', which are collection of some section of this film and bits of Slavik's dance career from other sources. Naming a movie is an Art, 'The Last Days' is much fitter than just 'Ballroom Dancer'. It seems like yesterday when he and Karina shone here and there and everywhere and we all looked up to them.
Not keeping the professional partnership seems fatal to a great dancer, as I see, it is getting harder and harder to find a partner who is at least with the same quality as him. Some people are 'designed' to dance together, Slavik and Karina are definitely such. No one else could flaunt each other so brilliantly. Anna won the amateur championship and right after that she joined the professional world with Slavik.
I think this is an excellent documentary, when it captured the moment(s) when M&J got the 1st, and beside them stood S&A taking the 2nd or 3rd... I believed that bitterness was all a person could feel. Joanna had been his partner and together they won everything when they were still in the amateur competitions. But now, his former partner took everything with another great dancer, while he was still struggling with hip pain, quarrelling with partner...
I believe many successful people also share the same story- a great cost in exchange for perfection. It is ridiculously tough when you insist to pursue a high goal. You sacrifice all you can sacrifice, life becomes too hard that you can't help to lose your temper, and in turn lose the person you love. However, having a dream makes you more real, better than not to have one.
No offense here, I love to watch Slavik's dancing. Slavik and Karina was my favourite couple, now, after their split for years, I still watch their videos. To me, he is still a star, and never shines less than before.
