Line Dancing is the one in which people dance singly, performing identical routines in lines. Some sequences can be performed in circle or contra formation and also some Line Dances can be danced by couples. As said, it could be a Partner Dance.
Partner Dance, in Country Western dance means a dance that couples progress around the dance floor performing set sequences of steps and movements. It is always confused with another dances, Couples Freestyle Dancing. “Couple” is the term used to describe Country Western dance performed by two people around the outer circle of the dance floor, and in which the couples do not perform a set sequence, the various steps are linked together in a non-repetitive manner using the rhythm and phrasing of the music plus dance floorcraft to construct suitable amalgamations, whether simple for social dancing or more complex for competitive work. Intertwining movements of the arms, and lady's spins always a prominent feature of this graceful dancing.
Western Dancing and in particular Line Dancing has long been popular because of the easy footwork and no needing of a partner, but since 1978 it has become a craze as the popular file Saturday Night Fever. A real big upsurge came in 1993 when the hit record Achy Breaky Heart by Billy Ray Cyrus hit the crowd.
Line Dancing now incorporates many dance styles from jazz to rock, and it is becoming harder to differentiate which is which.
