Music & La Luna- you can't find a movie will ALL the danceable music. EVERY piece of music has been so good, which means they all fit into my style, i.e. very latino. I wonder where I can find a club like La Luna. Just a little shame- that these Salsa people didn't have nice dance costumes.
Group dances- the mechanics dance and the La Luna line dancing were great. See, they were better than the nowadays serials like SU & SD. Unlike SU's or SD's dancers who tended to take the advantages of hi-technology to produce the 'state of the art' dancing, dancers in the older films made full use of their own bodies to present great dancing. AND I think YOUR BODY should be the basis of dancing.
Salsa- Really, I would love to have an apartment like Rico's, if I could have a partner to dance with. The dance in Rico's was very enticing, it didn't look like the salsa I watched in real shows as it meant to seduce and the one final destination for the guy and gal would be the bed, AND this is exactly the reason I am not into salsa, it has become no more than club dancing, and I can't dance it in a normal social function. AND, I don't want to be linked up with just SEX when I dance.
However, Salsa is actually more than that. Originating from Son, adopting N. Am jive, also inspired by Chachacha, Salsa itself is a fusion. I want to see the trait of it but not a twisted value of it. I like to see Rico's passion about the dance but not how he used his talent to lure hot girls. Well, anyway, few concern about the art itself.
I should also mention that they WERE really dancing, You know, Richard Gere & Jennifer Lopez in Shall we Dance, Andy Lau & Sandra Ng in Dance of a Dream, Jeff James & Laura Harring in Forbidden Dance, and a lot of other stars in dance movies, were not dancing.
BUT, I don't like the plot. As a decent person, I can never like a story of a cocky guy who messed around and even convinced a nice gentleman to date his own sister so that he could have a free hand on the sister's classmate, no matter how talented he was in dancing, this man was just shit. I'd rather like them to curb the magnanimity because some people won't change and they just don't deserve any compassion. Also, they need some training in acting.
