The positive message it intended to send was fine, but the whole thing was very wrong in too many ways.
The plot
It is supposed to be the life of Sara after the audition in STLD1. However, it didn't seem to be the same person anymore. Not because of the new face (Miko instead of Julian), it was because of the thinking and the personality. After dating Derek, it was supposed that the same Sara would have somehow understood what hip hop was and she would have known that she might like the liberated feeling hip hop would bring and she should have known that ballet was just different from that. However... she seemed to be a completely different person.
The ballet
When Sara answered the teacher's question about why she threw her arm in a different way, and she said the way she threw her arm was more natural. I was like OMG! Of course ballet dancing is not natural, no dancing is natural, even hip hop is not natural (don't tell me that doing multiple head spin is natural), the only thing I find natural in dancing has been the fact that we use our feet. Dancing is an exaggeration of natural body movements, and different dances develop their own ways to express. A normal girl can say ballet is not natural, but a girl who has been through a lot of things and worked hard to succeed in an audition must have known that. And, it seemed to me that they wanted to show ballet was a classic, rigorous, strict and serious dancing so as to contrast to the relatively less structured street dancing. But I don't see why being strict is a problem, especially when you are just a student. I can't see anyone though with incredible talent would succeed by just dancing in clubs. Dancing is an art so it requires some emotions to sparkle something, however, it is also a science, a sport, it is always good to know how far can a human body go, how twists and turns are done and how can you stretch your potential further... With tons of strict training, muscle memory builds up, sense of balance builds up, flexibility and musicality builds up... I deeply believe that it was because of these highly structured and organized training that made Sara so bright in hip hop. And one more, I can't agree that ballet is a repetition of a group of particular movement. If you really a theatre goer, you will know it is very creative, and only in this way ballet such a classic dance can survive in this ever changing world.
Okay, I don't know much about hip hop, I only know who it popped up in the 1990s and how different styles of hip hop... And based upon my knowledge about the dance, I find the choreography very … 'special', not in a good way. Alright, in short, I don't like it.
